Death of Bowen D. Houck, Father of WFDA Past President and NFDA Policy Board Member John Houck

Bowen D. Houck, age 83, of Dodgeville, formerly of Richland Center, died on Monday, March 29, 2010 at Bloomfield Manor in Dodgeville. Bowen was born on November 14, 1926 in Richland Center to Nelson and Alice (Bowen) Houck. He graduated from the Richland Center High School in 1944 and enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served as a Sergeant in the Philippines during World War II. He married the former Anita Knause of Richland Center on July 20, 1950. Bowen was a 1952 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Law School and practiced law in Richland Center until retiring in 1988. He served as the head of the Police and Fire Commission for Richland Center for over 30 years. He was a member of the Town & Country United Presbyterian Church and a Past Commander of the Bayard-DeHart American Legion Post #13 in Richland Center. Bowen enjoyed the Badgers, Packers, Brewers and Cubs; a good hand in euchre, golf and dinner at the club with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nelson and Alice; his wife of 43 years, Anita on February 22, 1994; her parents, Milford and Dorothy Knause; and a brother-in-law, Paul Fowell. Bowen is survived by three daughters, Jane Quinn of Mabel, MN Susan (Berlye Middleton) Houck of Eau Claire and Julia (Kathy King) Houck of Madison; two sons, John (Lesley) Houck (former NFDA Policy Board Rep), of Dodgeville and Thomas (Kris) Houck of Pewaukee; a brother, Kent (Marilyn) Houck of Richland Center; nine grandchildren, Ryan (Laurie) and Andrew (Nicole) Quinn; Courtney and Christopher Middleton; Caitlin Houck-King; Kevin and Nick Houck; and C.J. and Katie Houck; five great grandchildren, Brendon, Shelby, Alex, Mason and Tegan; a sister-in-law, Nancy Fowell of Madison; two nieces, Karen (James Lane) Fowell and Sarah Fowell a nephew, Matthew Lawrence, as well as many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Stafford Funeral Home in Richland Center with Pastor Rom Pegram officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Center Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Richland Center Veteran’s Military Memorial Honors Unit. Friends may call from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Dodgeville United Methodist Church and at the funeral home on Thursday after 10:00 A.M.
